In 1872 lands once thought uninhabitable are coveted by the white settlers, traders and miners headed West. In far Northern California the last few bands of Modoc cling to their ancestral lands, trying to live in peace with their new neighbors. Farmers now plow the ground where the Modoc ancestors lived. The U.S. Government decides it is time to move the surviving bands to a reservation. Set in the Land of the Burned Out Fires, near Tule Lake in Northern California.
